NEW REVIEW OF RUN AWAY in SING OUT MAGAZINE
"A masterful bubbling cauldron of mostly original songs spanning the American stringband, roof-raising Gospel and rustic country blues styles, performed by a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist from, unexpectedly, western Canada. This very satisfying album is buoyed by the artist's playful spirit, poetic soul and love of roots music. Highly recommended."

...A fully realized roots masterpiece, Run Away is a testament to the refined talents of a completely self-confident artist who deserves big time exposure in festivals and on concert stages.

Steve Schellenberg is an astute observer of the human condition. His life long love of Americana and traditional folk music becomes a canvas and each song he creates contains the subtle strokes of a master, whether it’s a robust travelling song or a tale of lost love.
Born in Minnesota, raised in Winnipeg, Steve’s musical roots are deep. From his father’s cowboy songs to his uncle Solli’s hootenannies at Lake Winnipeg, Steve’s childhood was steeped in folk tradition. With the encouragement of a junior high school teacher Steve began playing guitar and writing poetry in grades seven and eight, skills that have been finely honed though life experience.
Steve’s deep commitment to humanitarianism led to years of volunteer work in soup kitchens and shelters across Western Canada. These experiences are reflected in Steve’s writing, not through mere observation, but from the heart of a man who believes one person can make a difference. In a world shrouded in fear and indifference, Steve’s music and quick wit provide a common ground.
"Always be aware of the economic value of neighbourly acts. In our time, the costs of living are greatly increased by the loss of neighbourhood, which leaves people to face their calamities alone."
~ Wendell Berry
